Birthday Canvas Backdrop
My son will be turning the big 5 on March 1st. So I have officially started the party planning. The theme is Comic Spiderman. So, since I was home today, we started a project. I say we because Damian "helped" mainly he contributed to the mess not so much to complete the project.
This is the finished project Spiderman comic book pages mod podged onto a 4ft x 3ft canvas.
This will be the backdrop for the birthday cake.
What you will need:
- A blank canvas
- Comic books/book pages
- Mod podge
- A brush
This is a canvas I've had for a long time. I was suppose to paint circles in different colors and each circle was going to have a painted face of the Paul Frank characters. Unfortunately as you can see, I never finished it. So this canvas finally makes its way into a new project.
I bought the comic books on ebay. I purchased about 25 specifically of Spiderman and another
50 for other projects I have in mind. I will definitely keep you all posted.
First cut individual pages from your comic books, I also trimmed out the borders from each comic page. Using a brush add mod podge to your canvas, working in small sections at a time. Once your glue is brushed on, start laying down your pages onto the canvas. If you have uncovered edges, like I have in the above photo, cut small sections of the comic pages and glue them down and have them wrap around the edges of the canvas. This will give the canvas a finished look. Once your canvas is completely covered with comic pages, you must seal the pages by adding mod podge with your brush over everything. This will protect your work of art! Remember, this can always be done with book pages too. Enjoy!
